Charleston Falls: trail, hours and access
Charleston Falls is the rare Ohio waterfall you can study from two angles in one short visit: an observation deck above the 37-foot limestone drop and a boardwalk near its base, linked by well under a mile of trail. The preserve around it, run by the Miami County Park District, is free to enter and open 8 a.m. to sunset daily.
The preserve anchors the central and southwest section of our waterfalls in Ohio guide.

Trail and access
Charleston Falls Preserve has its own dedicated parking lot off Ross Road, with a short trail network connecting the falls to an observation deck perched above the drop and a second path down to a boardwalk near the base. The walk from the lot to either viewpoint is well under half a mile, with some stairs managing the elevation change into the small gorge. There's no entrance fee and no permit required.
The falls
The 216-acre preserve is built around Charleston Falls and Trail Creek, and it's described locally as the most visited nature park in Miami County. The limestone ledges the water spills over give the falls a stepped, layered look rather than a single sheer drop, and the geology here differs visibly from the sandstone falls farther south and east in Ohio, part of why local guides sometimes describe it as a small-scale version of Niagara Falls' layered rock face. Trails loop around both the top and bottom of the falls, so visitors can see the drop from above at the observation deck and from below at the boardwalk without retracing the same path.
